Man, I loved the Atari 2600 back in it's day. Games like Pitfall!, Pitfall II: Lost Caverns, Pac-man, Starmaster and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back consumed hours of my childhood time. Sure, the games look and sound horribly dated by today's standards, but the graphics and music most definitely played second fiddle to awesome, challenging gameplay and endless replayability. Ah, the good old days!

Mario Hits the Mushroom Kingdom Jackpot

Bowser has once again kidnapped Princess Peach, but this time, Mario has another objective. The Mushroom Kingdom is bursting with more gold coins than before. Each level is littered with gold as coins rain down from overhead pipes, trails of coins are left behind special gold enemies and gold pipes transport Mario into coin-filled caverns. It’s up to players to collect as many coins as possible throughout their adventure.

Dinosaur Jr Announce New Album – “I Bet on Sky,” Kick Off North American Tour Later this Month

Some exciting news people! It’s been 27 years and ten studio albums, but Dinosaur Jr show no signs of stopping. Today they announce a brand new record, the third since the original trio of J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph regrouped in 2005. Titled I Bet on Sky, it’s out on September 18th.

“There is nothing quite like a Dinosaur Jr. album. The best ones are always recognizable from the first notes. And even though J tries to trip us up by smearing “Don’t Pretend You Didn’t Know” with keyboards, it’s clear from the moment he starts his vocals that this is the one and only Dinosaur Jr., long reigning kings of Amherst, Massachusetts (and anywhere else they choose to hang their toques).” -Byron Coley

E3 2012: Pikmin 3 (3DS)

Originally posted on Vooks - 6 June 2012 | Written by:

Ah, easy to love, such a pain in the arse to play :)

I've actually only played the original Pikmin (the Wii enhanced version), but I own 1 & 2 and fully intend to getting around to playing and finishing both sometime. But I have to say, I find the game infuriating, but all the more enjoyable for it.

As a "flagship" title for the big Wii U launch, I don't think this is really up to the task. I'd be keen to get it, and failing any other killer, must have launch titles being announced between now and that fateful day, I'll probably be picking this up and giving it a good ole bash; but it's just not really a big enough game to have as the Wii U launch title.

As before, I've included the thoughts of the good folk from after the jump ('tis my favourite Australian based Nintendo site after all), as well as the E3 trailer (really does look stunning), some pics and the Nintendo blurb.

E3 2012: Another Nintendo E3 Done & Dusted

The "big" Nintendo E3 Press Conference for 2012 is now naught but a memory and the inevitable post-E3 let-down sets in.

We've only ourselves to blame, really. We, the devoted fan boys & girls who salivate over ever tiny morsel of rumor that hits the Internet in the days and weeks leading up to the E3 press conferences. Obsessively posting our thoughts on various blogs offering opinions on everything from which games we want to see to what spectacular hardware surprises will be revealed. The sheer amount of "news" that gets posted in the lead up to E3 is mind boggling; but with each new post we read, with each new outlandish claim or leaked stat we salivate over, we whip ourselves into ever heightened states of frenzy. So much so, in fact, that unless Jesus himself walk onstage to announce that the shiny new console and games displayed before us would deliver mankind unto a new paradise of eternal life and unending joy, we'd probably still be disappointed.

E3 2012: New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U)

As expected, Nintendo announced a Mario game as a Launch title for the Wii U. It's not a new stand-alone adventure, unfortunately (but I guess a Mario Galaxy sequel was hoping for too much), but I'm still jazzed to get my hands on New Super Mario Bros. U and feast my eyes on the gorgeous HD Graphics.

Check out's take on the game after the jump where there's also heaps of images and the official Nintendo blurb.

Nintendo has officially announced New Super Mario Bros. U for the Wii U at their 2012 E3 press conference. Surprisingly it turned out to be one of the high points of the show as well.

If you’ve experienced the previous NSMB titles on the Wii or DS, then you should know exactly what to expect from this new entry in the series, designed ground-up for the Wii U and its GamePad controller.
The title plays like its predecessors, but includes unique gameplay involving the Wii U GamePad.
The player in control of the Wii U GamePad will be able to jump in on action at any time and provide the other players in the game with extra assistance. This GamePad support is being referred to as ‘Boost Mode’ and will also enable interaction and manipulation of enemies, and attempts at cooperative speed runs to become a reality.

Those in control of the Wii U GamePad will also be able to switch screens whenever they like, as previously shown in the Wii U launch trailer.

Lastly, with the assistance of the Nintendo Network and MiiUniverse, NSMB. U players will be able to read other players comments and accomplishments, and also leave their own feedback for others to read.

E3 2012: New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)

This would have to be my 2nd most anticipated 3DS game of E3 so far. Check out a brief description courtesy of below, then see the E3 Trailer, images & screenshots and the official Nintendo speil after the jump.

While the Wii U got most of the attention at Nintendo’s press conference for E3 2012, New Super Mario Bros. 2, an upcoming 3DS title was also given a quick showing.

While gameplay details are currently quite scarce, the game appears to be delving into Mario’s obsession with coins, and turning everything gold! An abundance of coins can be seen in the trailer shown below as well as new mysterious Gold Koopa, Gold Power-Ups and of course MORE GOLD COINS!

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is currently due for release in the Americas on August 19th 2012 and in a first for the 3DS, both at retail as a physical copy and via the eShop as a digital copy.

We’re sure we’ll receive it here in Australia sometime around then too. Stay tuned for more updates which will no doubt be given tomorrow.

E3 2012: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)

This was easily one of my most anticipated 3DS games when it was announced at E3 last year (when it was known simply as Luigi's Mansion 2), and it still remains my most wanted game on the handheld.

The announcement of multiple mansions in the game certainly is good news as the original outing on the GameCube was excellent fun but criminally short. Here's hoping this is finally the awesome adventure that Luigi deserves.

The Dark Knight Marathon is Coming to AMC Theatres

Originally posted on ComingSoon - 4 June 2012

Read the below post and though to myself "Damn those lucky Yanks and their fancy Movie Marathons!":
As they did with last month's Ultimate Marvel Marathon, AMC Theatres is planning a special showcase of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy in select theaters on July 19th. What's more, their official site is reporting that the upcoming finale, The Dark Knight Rises, will have a running time of 2 hours and 45 minutes, making it the longest entry in the franchise.
But then my brother sent me this link - Dark Knight Trilogy | IMAX Melbourne - and I was all happy again!

Check below the jump for all the details on the IMAX Melbourne screenings. And don't go booking any tickets before I have the chance to secure the best seats in the house - you have been WARNED!

My Faith in the Movie Going Public has Been Restored

With the announcement earlier in the week that Independence Day is due to return to theaters on July 3, 2013 with a full 3D post-conversion, I was reminded that two other small, independent films were recently rereleased as post-converted 3D versions, though to be honest I'd almost completely forgotten about them.

When I first read about the plans to rerelease Titanic and The Phantom Menace in cinemas as 3D versions, I figured like most cinical people that it was simply a money grubbing exercise by the big movie houses. It's not like they didn't earn enough in their initial theatrical runs ($US600,779,824 and $US431,065,444 respectively), not to mention all the additional revenue from DVD/Blu-ray and television rights, and I really couldn't see how either would be significantly enhanced by the conversion to 3D; certainly not enough to justify outlaying the cash to see them at the cinema again.

"Very special" pre-E3 Nintendo Direct streaming tomorrow

"Very special" pre-E3 Nintendo Direct streaming tomorrow: Rather than leave us hanging until E3 to get the latest info on its Wii U console, Nintendo has just announced that a new, special pre-E3 Nintendo Direct presentation will be heading our way very soon. Tomorrow soon, in fact.

The presentation is scheduled to broadcast on the 4th of June at 8:00am AEST.
