Knights of Badassdom Finally Getting a Release

http://knightsofbadassdom-movie.com/#

Filming began on Knights of Badassdom waaay back in 2010, so it's been a long time coming. And when you consider some of the god-awful movies that have been released in the meantime (think Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Battleship, After Earth), while this potentially awesome movie has been left to languish, well it's just saddening.

I first saw the trailer for this at least two years ago and I've been hanging out to see it ever since. It's unlikely we'll see a theatrical release in Australia (or rather, absolutely won't happen), but it's getting a limited run in the US ahead of an On Demand and Digital release on Feb 11, so at the very least we should to get it on disc out here sometime after that.

So why will this movie be awesome? Why is it on my must see list for 2014? As evidence, I present to you the following:

  • The poster above. Awesome!
  • The title - seriously, it's Knights of Badassdom! Awesome!
  • The synopsis
KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM follows three best friends (Peter Dinklage, Steve Zahn and Ryan Kwanten) and dedicated LARPers (Live Action Role Players) as they take to the woods to reenact a dungeons and dragons-like scenario fresh out of the mythical Middle Ages. Trouble arises after they unwittingly conjure up some serious evil in the form of a blood-lusting Succubus, from the pits of hell.
Fantasy and reality collide on the Fields of Evermore in an all-out epic battle of make-believe wizards, demons and assorted mythical creatures. Their courage and friendship is put to the test as they attempt to vanquish the evil they have summoned. Will the group prove to simply be foam sword-wielding LARPers, or true “Knights of Badassdom?”
 Awesome!
  • The Cast
    • Peter Dinklage
    • Ryan Kwanten - seriously underrated actor who's easily my favourite in True Blood
    • Peter Dinklage
    • - she may not have the best track for picking TV series with longevity, but she was in Firefly/Serenity, and clearly has an affinity for genre projects
    • Peter Dinklage
    • - he was pretty good in Reality Bites
    • ...and featuring a special guest appearance by Peter Dinkalge! In Chain Mail!
Awesome!
  • The Trailer. It actually begins with "In a world… Within our world... They created a world... Unlike any other world…". Awesome!

Surely even the most hardened and cynical of moviegoers must admit that it looks pretty damn cool.
