Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play Batman in Justice League movie alongside Henry Cavill's Superman?

I must admit that the ending to The Dark Knight Rises concerning Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character left me somewhat nonplussed and more than a little annoyed

< Potential Spoilers - highlight to read only if you've seen the DKR ending >

Firstly, there's the whole "Robin" as a first name issue. I can understand why the filmmakers chose to do this; it provides a completely unsubtle, brick-over-the-head way of tying the character to The Boy Wonder. But the implication appears to be that Blake will take over the mantle of Batman rather than becoming Robin (with Bruce having retired and all), so having his name as Robin seems completely redundant.

Then there is the whole issue of why Bruce Wayne chose him at all. In the movie, Bruce and Blake meet only a handful of times, and you never get a sense of the characters being connected in anything other than a cursory manner. Plus, it seems highly unlikely that Bruce would have had time to gather a lot of detail about Blake's activities during the occupation of Gotham, so he basically has no idea who this young "hot-head" cop is. Yet despite all this, Bruce is willing to hand over all his Batman tech and gadgetry (items which he specifically stated were too dangerous to allow to fall into the "wrong" hands for fear they be used as weapons) as well as the responsibility of being "Gotham's Protector". I just hope he also left  behind some detailed user manuals!

And there is also the issue of Wayne Manor becoming an orphanage. So unless Blake is supposed to become some sort of guardian to all the orphans so he can take up residence to give him access to the Batcave (which, let's face it, is going to make getting in and out of the cave a right pain with all those damn, nosey kids around), he's in a pretty crap situation. Assuming he's still living in the city, everytime "The Batman" is needed he'll have to drive out to the cave, strap on his harness and swing through the waterfall, dry himself off, put on the suit and then drive back into the city. I'm guessing he'll be late to the party most of the time!

< Spoilers End >

Anywho, the (possibly debunked) rumour is now floating around that JGL will be taking on the role of Batman in the Justice League movie. Personally I think this is a terrible idea, but if given the right treatment, I suppose it could be made to work. Read on after the jump for the original article from The Geek Files.

FORWARD! NYC is a mess, and though I’m... (via thisisthesecrethistory.tumblr.com)

thisisthesecrethistory:
FORWARD! NYC is a mess, and though I’m one of the lucky ones around here, Hurricane Sandy only made me more certain how important the election Tuesday is. The center has been drifting right for 30+ years, and our sense of community, collectivity, dismantled across the sprawl of suburbia, drowned in the noise of media, blinded by the illusion that we are supermen with magic technology —-as opposed to what we really are—- working people on all fours who don’t realize that Oligarchs are using our backs as snack tables. Voting for PRESIDENT OBAMA is IMPORTANT. To stop the drift, to establish respect for women and LGBT community, to build upon healthcare reform, to protect Unions and try to restore American manufacturing through green energy and the auto industry. TRANSFORMATIVE CHANGE will occur in our lives, communities, conversations, backyards, across many generations to come…outside of politics, and then perhaps within it. BUT THIS IS JUST A CRUCIAL MOMENT. Call your family members and tell them how important this is, with respect and coercion. Then drag a random teenager or two to the polls. Buy them cigarettes. Whatever it takes. SHARPEN YOUR FOCUS NOW AND DO WHAT YOU CAN OVER THESE LAST FOUR DAYS, PLEASE!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles [AWESOME!]

"Heroes in a Half Shell" (from left: Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo)

Honestly, I'm such a nerd, but I'm loving watching the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series - brings back such fond memories of my childhood (well, teenage-hood, anyway).

I couldn't even say why I've always been such a fan of the Turtles, but there is just something so indelibly cool about four pizza-loving, skateboarding Ninja Turtles that appeals to me. And at the time I became aware of TMNT (which was around 1987 when the first animated series started its run), the language was definitely a drawcard - "bummer," "dude," "bogus," "radical," "far-out," "tubuloso," "bodacious," and especially, "cowabunga" quickly became adopted vernacular for anyone wishing to be identified as a fan.

But ultimately, the real appeal simply lay in the title: these guys are Teenage, Mutant, Ninja, Turtles - what more could you possibly want? Oh, and the original theme song rocks!
